Shipium Carrier Selection: Adding a Carrier Service Method

Overview

Once you have added a shipping carrier, the next step is to set up one or more Carrier Service Methods. Broadly, setting up a carrier service method means two steps:

  1. Setting up basic information about the new service method.
  2. Populating the new service method's rate table and any surcharge modifiers that you have negotiated with the carrier

New Service Method Details Dialog

Clicking Add Service Method will bring up the above dialog and ask for a few basic pieces of information about the new service method. Let's go through each of them briefly.

Service Method DataDescription
Service Method Select the service method from the dropdown. This will be different and based on the carrier to which you are adding a new service method.
ActiveThis defines whether the new service method should be considered for use in carrier selection.

You may want to start with new service methods set to Inactive until you have populated their rate table.
Test ModeIf Test Mode is set to True, then you will be getting production labels. If it is set to False, you will get test labels that do not charge your organization money and are not valid for shipping.

While onboarding a new carrier service method, you may wish to start with TestMode set to True while you validate label printing.
Destination TypeYou should almost certainly leave this set to Carrier Default. If you have a reason to only want this service method to apply to Residential or Commercial addresses, you can select one of those – but you probably don't.
NameBy default, this will be the same as the name of the service method, but it can be changed if you have reason to do so.

Once that information is completed, you can click Submit and your new service method will be ready for use as soon as you add a rate table.
