MCP

The Shipium API Model Context Protocol (MCP) server enables AI-powered code editors like Cursor and Windsurf, plus general-purpose tools like Claude Desktop, to interact directly with your Shipium API and documentation.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that allows AI applications to securely access external data sources and tools. The Shipium API MCP server provides AI agents with:

  • Direct API access to Shipium API functionality
  • Documentation search capabilities
  • Real-time data from your Shipium API account
  • Code generation assistance for Shipium API integrations

Shipium API MCP server setup

Shipium API hosts a remote MCP server at https://docs.shipium.com/mcp. Configure your AI development tools to connect to this server. If your APIs require authentication, you can pass in headers via query parameters or however headers are configured in your MCP client.

Add to~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "shipium-api": {
      "url": "https://docs.shipium.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Configuring for Claude Desktop in the UI

  1. Open Claude Desktop.
  2. Click on the "Search and tools" icon. (It looks like a slider in the bottom left of Claude Desktop.)
  3. Click on "Add Connectors". (This appears at the top of the "Search and tools".)
  4. Select "Add a custom one". (This is at the top of the "Add Connectors" interface.)
    1. Give it a name of "Shipium Docs".
    2. Enter the following in the "Remote MCP Server URL" box: https://docs.shipium.com/mcp.
  5. Click the "Add" button and now you can ask questions about the Shipium API docs from Claude Desktop.

Testing your MCP setup

Once configured, you can test your MCP server connection:

  1. Open your AI editor (Cursor, Windsurf, etc.).
  2. Start a new chat with the AI assistant.
  3. Ask about Shipium API - try questions like:
    • "How do I [common use case]?"
    • "Show me an example of [API functionality]"
    • "Create a [integration type] using Shipium API"

The AI should now have access to your Shipium API account data and documentation through the MCP server.
